Surgical teaching system

IRCAD has 2 auditoriums of 140 seats, equipped with an HD interactive multimedia teaching system.

Documentary credits : Pascal RIEDINGER, Riedproductions

Each auditorium is connected with a HD video edition station, which allows to display multi-source imaging. This station is linked to 3 HD operating rooms located in the "New Civil Hospital" of Strasbourg thanks to a dedicated fiber-optic system.

Thanks to broadband ISDN lines provided by France Telecom, connection with surgical centers worldwide is made possible through videoconferencing. These images are sound-mixed and are broadcast in either one or both auditorium(s) simultaneously.

Displayed images are digitally saved and may be edited and published on the Internet rapidly. Surgeons presenting surgical interventions in the OR have a microphone and an acoustic feedback from connected auditoriums. In other words, videoconferencing becomes interactive.
Each participating surgeon in the auditorium has a microphone to directly communicate with the surgeon operating. Thanks to the various screens of the auditorium, internal and external images of the surgical procedure can be simultaneously seen. In addition, teaching can be followed on the Internet via additional screens.

Each auditorium has an electronic voting system allowing to interact with all the attendants, thereby creating interactive, educational and animated sessions.
